Visit to University of Scranton Library – October 21st, 2019

On October 21st, 2019 I visited the Weinberg Memorial Library at the University of Scranton in Scranton, PA. I heard this library has an amazing collection of penmanship specimens and I was not disappointed with my visit. I only saw a small percentage of the collection, almost exclusive from Edwin H. Fearon’s scrapbooks and personal collection. Below are some pictures I took while browsing the materials that day.

Visit to the Newberry Library – April 20th, 2019

On April 20th, 2019 I visited the Newberry Library in Chicago, Illinois. This independent library is open to the public and contains one of the best collections of American penmanship from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The collection is called the “Platt Rogers Spencer Collection” and is the personal collection of the Spencer family. The collection contains letters and calligraphic art from many of the great American penman.
